Ocular Prosthetic Options
Prosthetic devices include tinted and/or painted contact lenses, as well as full rigid ocular devices.
- Tinted contact lenses and help those affected with migraines, double vision or severe glare from a disease or injury.
- In cases where someone may have a scar or small/shrunken eye from injury or disease, a hand-painted contact lens can improve cosmetic appearance and in some cases improve vision remaining in the eye.
- For people experiencing loss of an eye, a rigid ocular prosthetic device can be fit to support the eye lids and surrounding eye socket tissues, as well as to improve cosmetic appearance. In most cases, fitting of an ocular prosthetic device will improve the quality of life.
Our goal is to restore confidence and comfort to patients who are affected with these conditions!
An ocular prosthetic examination consists of in-office measurements, photography, and device trials to find the perfect fit and appearance. The process usually involves 3-4 visits to finalize the design and typically takes about 4-6 weeks to complete.
For those in need of continued care and maintenance of ocular prosthetic devices and eyes, we offer evaluation and polishing services to be scheduled as needed throughout the year.
